PROPER OBJECTS was founded by Lumi and Michael, brought together by a shared appreciation for well-made things, thoughtful design and discovering beautiful products from around the world. For us, choosing a gift has never been simply about finding something to give. It’s about the objects, how they come together, and the moment they create when they’re received.

When Lumi settled into life in Sydney in early 2024, she found herself carefully choosing and styling gifts for friends — for gatherings, celebrations and all the little occasions in between. What started simply as something she enjoyed doing was met with such lovely responses that it gradually began to feel like it could become something more. The idea for PROPER OBJECTS really took shape while searching for gifts for business clients. So much of corporate gifting felt familiar: the same products, the same combinations, the same presentation. The gift was there, but the moment often wasn’t.

So we began with a simple question: what could a thoughtful, properly presented hamper look like?

At PROPER OBJECTS, we don’t see a hamper as a collection of products placed in a box. Every object is chosen for a reason, and together with flowers, thoughtful packaging and the way everything is presented, they create a moment to be enjoyed. A bottle might be opened over dinner. A beautiful pasta might become the first meal in a new home. A cup of tea might be saved for a slow afternoon. We want every object to have a life beyond the gift itself.

Gifts have always been a way of connecting people. Our hope is that long after the wrapping is gone and the objects have found their place, the thought behind the gift is what stays.
